Twitter Streets: The Most Talked About Trends Today -Mar 6

1. #Lent2019 | #AshWednesday

Today marks the first commemoration of the lent period for Christians around the world. Ash Wednesdays are observed where Christians have ash applied on their foreheads as a sign of repentance and interior sorrow. Lent periods are observed for 40 days of fasting, reflecting the 40 days and nights Jesus Christ spent in the desert. Activities to be avoided during this time include smoking and drinking alcohol.

2. Kylie Jenner

The reality TV star has been named by Forbes as the youngest self-made billionaire ever. Through her three-year old business, Kylie Cosmetics, the young Kardashian-Jenner member attributes her success to the ‘power of social media’. ‘It’s the power of social media. I had such a strong reach before I was able to start anything’, Kylie says.

She beat Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg who achieved this status at 23.

3. #JujaKillings

Reports emerged on Tuesday that yet another university student was stabbed in Juja area while with his girlfriend. Shawn Mofasa, a JKUAT student was assaulted late Monday evening by two thieves however, one was caught and burnt to death after the girlfriend ran for help but the other escaped. Shawn is recuperating in hospital. This once again sparked the online conversation about security concerns for university students within the area under #JujaKillings.

4. Jadudi

The cancer warrior who got into the limelight back in late 2015 (seeing Kenyans raise Kshs. 6.4 million for his medical expenses abroad) succumbed on Monday. A statement from the Africa Cancer Foundation read, ‘We regret to inform you that Jadudi, a.k.a. Emmanuel Otieno, succumbed to brain cancer at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, Kisumu on the night of March 4, 2019’.

5. Captain America Trilogy | Batman Trilogy

A US writer posed a question wondering whether there were any three Marvel movies better than Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy. Tweeps took to Twitter to name their personal favorites with those in favor of ‘Captain America’ and ‘Batman’ trilogies topping the trends.

The country’s air transport faces paralysis as workers have gone on a boycott. Reports indicate that by 8am this morning six inbound flights were still marked as ‘scheduled’.
