Twitter Unveils 2020’s Top Tweets, Trends and Personalities

Twitter has revealed the top tweets and hashtags of the year on their blog titled “#ThisHappened: Spending 2020 Together on Twitter”. In a statement on Monday, the microblogging platform announced that “Black Panther” star, the late Chadwick Boseman’s post announcing his demise was not only the most retweeted tweet of 2020, but also the most liked tweet ever on the platform – It has since garnered over 3 million retweets and quoted tweets, and about 7.5 million likes.

NBA star Kobe Bryant also made the list as the second most tweeted about entertainment celebrity. This, following a plane crash accident that cost not only his and his daughter Gianna’s lives, but also that of seven others back in January.

As #COVID19 became the most tweeted hashtag in 2020, Donald Trump, Joe Biden and George Floyd were the most tweeted about people globally. Other personalities who made it to the top 10 overall list include Barack Obama, BTS, Narendra Modi, Kanye West, Elon Musk and Kamala Harris – She was also the most tweeted about woman in the world.

UnKut Hennessy Hip Hop Awards Nominees Revealed

UnKut Africa has unveiled nominees for this year’s “UnKut Hennessy Hip Hop Awards”. Now in its fourth edition, rappers Breeder LW, Boutross, Asum Garvey and Scar of Wakadinali are contending for the coveted Male Artist of the Year award. Maandy and Silverstone Barz received a nod in the Best Female of the Year category. Kayvo Kforce’s “Fathela” album has been nominated for Album of the Year award, alongside “Antidote” (Blaque Swahili), “Don Wa Madon” (Jovie Jovv), and “Azania na Wanawe” (Fikrah Teule).

Ruby V, the event’s organizer while acknowledging the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic, had this to say, “It has been tough planning the event because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This means that we will also just have a small number of guests but definitely no one will be left behind because we will have the event streaming on platforms like YouTube. We have also ensured that the gala will adhere to the set COVID-19 prevention guidelines.”

The “UnKut Hennessy Hip Hop Awards” gala will be held on December 18th at the Sarit Center Expo, Nairobi. Check out the full list of nominees here.

‘The Marksman’ Trailer Released

Open Road Films has released an official trailer for their upcoming film, “The Marksman”. Directed by Robert Lorenz, the action-thriller follows Jim (Liam Neeson), a rancher, who becomes the unlikely defender of a young Mexican boy desperately fleeing the cartel assassins who’ve pursued him into the U.S.

Katheryn Winnick, Teresa Ruiz, and Juan Pablo Raba also co-star alongside Neeson. “The Marksman” arrives in select theaters January 21, 2021.
