DeWanda Wise, who plays Nola Darling in Netflix's
She's Gotta Have It has given up a lucrative role in Disney's upcoming Captain Marvel movie because of scheduling conflicts. The African-American actress was rumored to take up the role of Storm, a powerful and hugely popular character in the X-Men comics.
DeWanda confirmed the news on her Instagram Stories saying, "It's true, I will no longer be in Captain Marvel because the schedule conflicts with season 2 of She's Gotta Have It." She also expressed her despair at the loss of the career-making opportunity, but the irony of the whole ordeal wasn't also lost on her, giving a positive spin to the whole thing: "Last week I felt pretty devastated... But here we are — at a moment in culture where scheduling conflicts are rapidly replacing lack of options, and I feel absolutely blessed to be here."
Captain Marvel is scheduled to hit cinemas in mid-2019. It will star Oscar-winner Brie Larson as the title character in what will be Marvel's first female-led solo film. The movie will be co-directed by Anna Boden (The Big C) and Ryan Fleck (Half Nelson). It is based on Marvel Comics character Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, and her journey to becoming one of the galaxy's mightiest heroes after the Earth is caught in the centre of an intergalactic conflict between two alien worlds.
