You don't often come across Indie Rock artists in Kenya. Not too many record labels can accommodate such a niche sound. That's why bedroom pop is all the rage now. Bedroom pop is a music movement powered by online platforms, readily available music software and fair, algorithmically driven recommendation systems. Seasoned producers and recording companies no longer have the gatekeeping leverage that has locked out many artists from pursuing careers in music. Indie artists have figured out how to use the internet to their advantage. With a computer, phone and reliable internet, bedroom pop artists are gaining major traction on the digital space with impressive streaming numbers. Heck, Billie Elish , the Jonas brothers and Justin Bieber started out as bedroom pop artists. Closer home, Indie Rock performer Ace Declan released his debut effort yesterday (Sept 6th 2020).
