“Freedom Fields”: Feminism and Football

A decade ago, the Arab Spring swept across the Middle East and North Africa. Toppling regimes, giving rise to pro democracy movements across the world and also with it, came terrible repercussions. In Freedom Fields,  a group of young women in Post- Revolution Libya want to play football on the world stage. This is a new country, a new era. More freedom and liberties for women-so they thought.

But the fight is far from over. Things continue to degenerate for women in Libya but these young, spirited women won’t concede to the forces seeking to subjugate women. These budding feminists use football as a tool of liberation. Through their eyes,  we see the reality of a country in transition, where the personal stories of love, struggle and aspirations collide with History.
