Dance MTAANI, a community project organised by Katharina Richter, Destiny Shapers Kenya and DICE Crew will hold weekly dance sessions in schools at Dandora Phase 1. The project intends to use dance as a tool for empowerment in the areas of self development and health awareness for the youth in informal settlements.
The dance sessions will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2-3 hours a week at Dandora Primary School and Vision Achievers. There will be a dance camp in August from 6th-10th and a dance concert on the 11th of the same month from 2pm at PEFA Dandora Cathedral.
Some of the topics they intend to cover, aside from personal development and health awareness, will be talent development and an introduction to hip hop culture and its values which are peace, love, unity, and constructive fun.
On their GoFundMe page, DICE Crew say they were inspired by American Hip Hop artist Nas's song, I Can to start the project in order to help the children believe in themselves, have a vision, boost social interactions and build social networks within their communities, and show them a way out of the slums without using violence. Dance MTAANI will collect donations until the 25th July on GoFundMe.
The team is also requesting for;
  • Sponsors for drinks and snacks for the participants during the dance camp and concert
  • Funds to provide the participants with Dance MTAANI T-shirts
  • Partners for long term cooperation for future Dance MTAANI editions.
