Black Panther, one of the world's most anticipated movies, yesterday premiered in Lupita Nyong'o's home city, Kisumu. The Afro-glam premiere evening was hosted at the Anga Mega cinema. It was packed to the brim with enthusiastic guests all who brought out their best Ankara pieces for the red-carpet event.
Rumours of Lupita Nyong'o flying in to join fans in watching the movie, in which she plays a major role as Nakia, had stirred up a lot of interest in the premiere. She didn't end up gracing the event - neither did her dad Anyang' Nyong'o who is the Governor of Kisumu County - but that didn't stop it from being a great night.

Achieng Ojany Alai, Kisumu County Executive for Tourism, Sports, and Arts who was in attendance encouraged the fans to take heart seeing that the 12 Years a Slave star had not mentioned she would be coming to the country. He went on to reassure them that Kisumu city is where her roots are and she will forever be one of them and that her starring in the film presents a world of opportunities for Kenyans.
The event kicked off with a cultural dance by the locals at the parking lot, the dancers were clad in their traditional African attire as they chanted away traditional songs amidst drumbeats and vigorous dancing. It was a red-carpet affair with the attendees actively engaging amongst each other while taking multiple photos in their tailored pieces.
Additionally, local designer sit jay suits also got the opportunity to showcase his collection to the masses. Once the nitty gritties were done, the excited guests headed to the cinema to watch the sci-fi film, which according to many is nothing short of amazing! One that will make you super proud to be Kenyan.
The event was streamed live by What's Good Live Studios.
