Everything she touches turns to gold! Beyoncé’s influence goes beyond music and acting. She is the social influencer extraordinaire sought after by politicians like Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton and brands like Adidas, Pepsi and L’Oréal. She recently extended her Midas touch to black-owned brands on her website and featured Kenyan brands too!

Here are some Beyoncé-approved Kenyan fashion brands to try in 2021:

Adele Dejak

Adele Dejak is home to luxurious African-inspired jewelry handcrafted in the heart of Kenya. Everything comes from materials that different African tribes use to make their ornaments and trinkets. They have contemporary, artistic and wearable bags, necklaces, earrings, rings and bracelets and also exclusive home decor items.

Anyango Mpinga

Anyango Mpinga is an eco-innovator who has embraced the principles of circular fashion to explore radical systems in textile design with the conscious consumer in mind. She founded the eponymous Contemporary Sustainable brand in 2015, now renowned for its reimagined white shirts; bold prints; balanced between androgyny and a bohemian aesthetic that is also size inclusive. She designs with an ethereal quality that is reminiscent of the romantic Victorian age while maintaining a sophisticated boyish edge.

 AVIDO

Founded by David Avido who grew up in abject poverty in Kibra, Avido uses sustainably sought materials to create contemporary styles while providing employment to hundreds of women in Kibra.

El Afrique

El Afrique is a Kenyan fashion design house founded by Whitney Nasanga. It deals in bespoke wear for men and women and specialises in African print designs including pencil skirts, maxi dresses and coats. The designs are always up-to-date with the latest trends.

Wazawazi Bags

Wazawazi leather bags are made from top quality leather from Kenya and are made in Kenya sourced from pastoralists communities.
