On first sight, the Rampage movie poster recalls the mighty King Kong. Rampage is the new action adventure flick getting its Kenyan premiere this Wednesday, April 11th. It stars Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson as a man who befriends a giant gorilla whom he works with to save the world from other monsters bent on destroying it.
If you're ready for some good action, energy and thrilling experience, here are a few things you should know about the movie before it.
  1. Dwayne Johnson has an African name
In the movie he goes by the name Davis Okoye. If you've watched Black Panther, you'll realize Okoye is also the name of King T'Challa's no-nonsense general played by Danai Gurira. I'm very curious to see whether they'll reveal why he got the name Okoye in the movie.
  1. It is inspired by a video game
The movie is based on a video game by the same name which was popular in the 80s. In the game, players take control of monsters that are trying to survive being killed by the military. The premise of the game is that the monsters were actual humans but a lab experiment went wrong. I'm waiting to see how they've spun this.
  1. The movie is based on a Japanese genre of films
The kaiju in Japan is loosely refers to 'monsters on the loose' and this genre of film has been very popular there with over 12 films and comics relating to the same. From the days of the original Godzilla in 1954 to as recently as Pacific Rim Uprising, Far East Asian influence in Hollywood scene has been rife and Rampage is no different in its concept.
  1. The movie is expected to make $80million
Reports say the movie will likely make $35million in the United States which means it might make more from the international scene. Will you be part of the numbers? The movie's success is focused on leveraging Dwayne Johnson's popularity and I'm sure it's going to be an interesting watch.
