The texture of silk is said to have many health benefits. From protecting hair and skin to improving the quality of sleep.
Recent clinical trials have shown that people who sleep on silk pillowcases has fewer instances of acne compared to people who didn't use silky pillowcases.
Experts on Healthline say that you should use silk pillowcases in addition to other acne treatments. Silk pillowcases are gentler on the skin of people with acne or sensitive skin than rough cotton or polyester pillowcases. Cotton also accumulates grease and bacteria from your face and hair which accumulate on the cloth. Silk is less absorbent thus is less likely to cause an accumulation of bacteria and oils from your head.
Silk may also be more beneficial to hair since it is less likely to absorb oils from your scalp. People with dry hair will benefit more from silk pillowcases because the silky material won't compromise the water or oil content of their hair.
The silky pillowcase may not necessarily improve the quality of your sleep as that is determined by other factors. Such as stress levels, melotonin levels, physical exhaustion, personal schedules, conditions of the external environment etc.
Buying silky pillowcases may benefit your face and hair in the long run but only if you also ensure that you do everything else you're required to do to maintain the health of your hair and face.
