Thank You for the Rain, a film directed by Julia Dahr, isn't just another film. Sheer creativity has been blended with facts, and fastidious expertise put in to ensure it's more than just a documentary. Today, the 16th of October 2018, is World Food Day, a day that raises awareness of the issues behind poverty and hunger. And the documentary seeks to make its input as we celebrate this global day.
As a nation, we have dreams. We have mental impressions of who and what we want to be tomorrow, and every day we kick away our blankets and rise from bed inspired to put shoulders to the wheel, so that one day we get to where we always wanted to be.
Regrettably though, it only takes a visit from hunger to strike us and the vehicle driving us to a better world coughs and conks out, leaving a distressed and hopeless people behind. It then follows that our top priority as a nation should be to ensure sustained availability of food: good food is good mood to work towards a good world.
A gloomy shadow is cast on our nation now that life-threatening problems gnaw at us as a result of government's move to swell VAT on petroleum. These problems include deterioration of access to food and nutrition because as taxes on petroleum pull hard towards one side, the cost of good food and nutrition heightens too.
Aware of the insidious danger and determined to solve it, the Route to Food Initiative will today host a screening of the documentary Thank You For The Rain, at the Heinrich Böll Foundation offices in Westlands, from 6 p.m.

The documentary delves into climate change, addressing climate justice, urbanization, gender equality, education, access to water, climate refugees, and adaptation, through a riveting story of an industrious Kenyan farmer and a Norwegian filmmaker.
Happy World Food day as you take action towards #ZeroHunger.
