Twitter Streets: Most Talked About Trends This Past Weekend

1. Kipchumba Murkomen

Kenya’s anti-corruption unit, EACC raided the Senator’s Komarock home over the weekend where they recovered Kshs. 20 million hidden under a mattress. In his defence, Murkomen said, ‘If the Ethics and Anti-Corruption officials found money in my Komarock house then they should be informed that it is entirely from my business and my men were about to deposit it in a bank’.

2. VIP Detail                               

A Kenyan, Serah Gaitho tweeted on Friday that she’d been hit by a vehicle belonging to a VIP detail. The vehicle, a Toyota Prado was also using the wrong side of the road. Upon Serah’s tweet, activist Boniface Mwangi informed the IG’s office which advised her to report the matter. It was later discovered the car belonged to the Director of Public Prosecution’s office who called for the arrest of the driver.

3. Nairobi’s Lion Statue

Mike Sonko was the talk of town as he had a ‘lion’ statue mounted along University way-Uhuru highway roundabout as part of Nairobi County’s beautification project. The statue faced ridicule on social media as it looked like a cartoon and KOT took grabbed the chance to compare it to lion statues from other word cities. The statue was replaced on Saturday night with what has been termed by tweeps as a ‘better-looking’ lion.

4. #USMovie        

Us’ had its first screening in various places around the United States including Texas ahead of its box office official premiere on 28th of March and if the Twitter reactions are anything to go by, the Jordan Peele-directed film is one not to miss watching in 2019.

5. Eric Omondi

Eric bet on his Italian fiancée, Chantelle promising that if his team (Manchester United) were to win against Arsenal in the Sunday night match, he would hand his wife over to Joe Muchiri, an avid Arsenal fan. He was also to shave his head but United was badly defeated and everyone’s eager to see if he’ll keep his promises.

6. #HandshakeAnniversary

Friday, 8th of March marked one year since President Uhuru and Raila Odinga called a truce with a handshake.

7. Jennifer Lopez

After two years of dating, JLo and retired baseball player Alex Rodriguez (ARod) have gotten engaged. The two confirmed this through via their social platforms. This will be JLo’s fifth engagement and the internet had something to say about that.

8. Captain Marvel

The much awaited opened in theatres on Friday and the opening sales are in! Captain Marvel, which is Marvel’s first film with a female solo headliner, earned $61.4 million on its first opening day at the US box office.
