Apple Unveils New MacBooks, M1 Chip

On Tuesday, Apple announced its new range of MacBooks - the Pro, Air and the Mac Mini. Dubbed "the perfect Mac for many creative pros", the 13-inch MacBook Pro will have an extended battery life of up to 20 hours, coupled with speed and power "beyond belief" - up to 2.8x CPU performance and 5x the graphics speed. MacBook Air, the thinnest and lightest notebook yet has been described as "the next generation of Mac", its CPU and GPU speeds are expected to be 3.5x and 5x faster respectively. The Mac Mini will provide 3x faster CPU performance and up to 6x faster graphics.
What's more, a breakthrough M1 chip that comes with the Macs! The first in a family of chips designed by Apple specifically for the Mac whose industry-leading performance per watt, together with macOS Big Sur, aids the M1 in delivering up to 3.5x faster CPU, up to 6x faster GPU, up to 15x faster machine learning (ML) capabilities, and battery life up to 2x longer than before. "The introduction of three new Macs featuring Apple's breakthrough M1 chip represents a bold change that was years in the making, and marks a truly historic day for the Mac and for Apple," said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO.
The MacBook Pro, Air and Mac Mini will retail at $1,299, $999 and $699 respectively. The gadgets are currently available for preorder with shipping expected to start next week.
