Golden Globes Cancelled?
NBC will not air the Golden Globes in 2022, the network confirmed in a statement on Tuesday following the LA Times' investigation that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the body that hands out the awards, has no Black members. The lack of diversity representation would have meant that some deserving films could have been overlooked at the awards ceremony. The development comes after Netflix, Amazon Studios and WarnerMedia (HBO and HBO Max owners) called out the organization and pulled the plug on any interactions between them and their talents. In response to the backlash, the HFPA vowed to implement changes including increasing its membership by 50% over the next 18 months and recruiting Black members, but industry players have termed the changes as "too little, too late" and "sorely lacking".The fate of the Golden Globes' survival going forward squarely lies on HFPA's next move.Netflix, Amazon and WarnerMedia have chosen to boycott the #GoldenGlobes until changes are made. "Like the rest of the industry, we are awaiting a sincere and significant resolution before moving forward," Amazon Studios chief Jennifer Salke said https://t.co/lgCO4BNTJU
