Barrack Obama’s Granny Dies

Sarah Obama, beloved grandmother of former US president Barrack Obama, has passed on at the age of 99. Mama Sarah’s daughter, Marsat Onyango, confirmed she had “gone to be with the Lord” early Monday morning while receiving treatment at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral hospital, Kisumu. Reports further indicate that her passing was not COVID-19 related.

“My family and I are mourning the loss of our beloved grandmother, Sarah Ogwel Onyango Obama, affectionately known to many as ‘Mama Sarah’ but known to us as ‘Dani’ or Granny,” Barrack wrote in a statement via Twitter. “We will miss her dearly, but we’ll celebrate with gratitude her long and remarkable life.”

President Kenyatta said her death was a “big blow to our nation🇰🇪. We’ve lost a strong, virtuous woman. A matriarch who held together the Obama family and was an icon of family values,”

Mama Sarah will be laid to rest at her Kogelo home today (March 30).
