The 2021 Oscars Ceremony Delayed

The 93rd annual Academy Awards have been postponed from February 28th to April 25th, 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic, the board’s executives announced on Monday. In addition, the eligibility period has been extended to February 2021 in a bid “to provide the flexibility filmmakers need to finish and release their films without being penalized for something beyond anyone’s control,” said David Rubin, the Academy’s president.

This is the first time in four decades that the event has been rescheduled after the 1981 assassination attempt on the then US president, Ronald Reagan. “We find ourselves in uncharted territory this year and will continue to work with our partners at the Academy to ensure next year’s show is a safe and celebratory event”, said ABC Entertainment’s president, the ceremony’s media partner.
