Commemorating International Youth Day
Today (Aug. 12) marks International Youth Day. The event, commemorated annually, was declared in 1999 by the United Nations in celebration of young peoples' voices, actions and initiatives. This year's theme "Youth Engagement for Global Action" seeks to highlight the ways in which the engagement of young people enriches national and multilateral institutions and processes, as well as draw lessons on how their representation and engagement in formal institutional politics can be significantly enhanced, according to UN blog.In a statement, UNICEF said that it was working closely with government partners to ensure that every child, adolescent and young person is protected and safe. Happy Youth Day!On this #YouthDay, I appeal to fellow parents, guardians and leaders to do everything to protect young people from violence and discrimination. Let's give them reason to believe in Kenya and offer our shoulders to the ambitious and restless who hold dreams and are raring to go.
