Everyone’s favorite supervillain- Gru- and his mischievous but lovable hench creatures- the Minions- are back on our screens with the fifth installation of the Despicable Me animation franchise-Minions: The Rise of Gru.
This time, we get to see Gru’s backstory and how he met the minions. We are transported to the 1970s where a pre-teen Gru obsesses over a nefarious gang called ‘The vicious 6’. They’re infamous for causing trouble around San Francisco and socially awkward Gru feels like he’s found his tribe. The social media craze is not just hype. As of July 28th 2022, Minions: The Rise of Gru has grossed $304,520,940 in ticket sales across 4,427 theaters.
Thor Love and Thunder
Box office smash Thor: Love and Thunder released on 6th July is the sequel to 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok and the fourth Thor movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and 29th overall. In this movie Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is settling in nicely in retirement after bidding goodbye to the Guardians of the Galaxy gang when his peace is interrupted by Gorr ‘the god butcher’ (Christian Bale), whose mission is to kill every god. It’s up to Thor….and friends to stop him.
As of July 28 2022, It has grossed $283,307,197 across 4,375 theaters.
Elvis is written and directed by Baz Luhrmann and is a visually stylish musical biopic told through the perspective of Elvis’ longtime manager, Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks). It focuses on Presley’s (Austin Butler) launch into superstardom, the business side of his time in the spotlight, his rocky and embattled relationship with his wife Priscilla and his Vegas residency in his later years. Released on June 24th, this movie has grossed $121,090,077 across 3,932 theaters as of July 28th 2022.
