Tony Mochama has been awarded Kshs. 9 million in damages for defamation in an alleged sexual harassment case. The journalist sued two women, Shalja Patel and Prof Wambui Mwangi who accused him of sexual harassment which allegedly happened during a lunch meeting at one of the accuser's homes on September 20, 2014.
According to the court documents, Magistrate Addah Obura said this: "There was no concrete evidence that the plaintiff ever molested or sexually assaulted the defendants at the respective time they allege." He further ordered the accusers to issue Mochama with an apology within a fortnight.
"I am also happy they will apologize to me after all the shenanigans, it is fulfilling", said Mochama, reacting to the ruling. He also revealed that both Patel and Wambui had opted for an out of court settlement, an idea he vehemently refused saying, "I wanted to prove to my family, friends and all Kenyans that I was a good man and not a beast as I had been branded".
