An ailing economy coupled with environmental crisis is aiding the thrift fashion phenomenon by fashionistas the world over. Circular fashion is all the rage here in Kenya. Has been for a long time anyway. Mitumba (second hand) clothing is a lifeline for consumers and traders alike. A report by the Institute of Economic Affairs and Mitumba Consortium Association of Kenya indicated that 91.5 per cent of households across the country bought second-hand clothes well known as mitumba in the year 2019.
Instagram would have you think that everyone has a personal stylist and shops at trendy boutiques but numbers don't lie. Pre-loved thrift clothing is just as good and it saves money too.
Nairobi has so much to offer in thrifted fashion. Check out all these options HERE.
You don't have to Think Twice about the bargain deals this fairly new thrift store offers. Think Twice is Kenya's  wallet-friendly option that offers the best of mitumba in an easy to navigate environment. You don't have to wake up early for a Gikosh run and you don't have to dive into a pile of clothes to get that coveted vintage dress.
Their website states that they are 'driven by a desire to give new life to clothes, whilst providing a welcoming, high-quality experience to customers'
They have clothes hanging on racks and are even categorized to make shopping easier.
Here's how the business model works: Every Monday, they open a fresh stock of some high quality second clothes at 600 bob. This when you can get barely used,  big-brand name items for a steal.
As the best of Monday stock is cleared within the week, the prices significantly drop by Wednesday when items retail at Ksh 50 all through Thursday.  On Fridays, all items go for Ksh 25!
Heidi, an editor based in Nairobi, told KenyaBuzz that she visited the Think Twice shop in Ngara and got a haul for just under Ksh 1000. "My daughter and I had so much fun selecting clothing items at Think Twice". She adds.
Yvonne, an accountant, tells us she gets all her best office fits at Think Twice. "I got some really nice pants and skirts for 25 bob. I also got some cool clothing for my son".
