Mayura, which is a Sanskrit word for peacock, is an exquisite Indian restaurant located on the ground floor of Kenrail Towers along Ring Road, Parklands. Every Sunday, they host a brunch at both the Parklands venue and their location at The Hub in Karen.
If you've been having an Indian food craving, then search no more! This restaurant will do a lot in settling all your cravings and what makes it even better is that it comes at a fairly affordable rate.
Walking into the restaurant, the one thing that caught my eye was the meticulous attention to detail given to the interior. The majestic peacock is used in nearly all elements of the decor, some prominent and some subtle in a way that would require an attentive eye to spot. When I asked, I was told that the peacock symbolism was used as a statement piece because it is the sacred national bird of India and symbolizes grace, joy, beauty and love.
The Sunday brunch, which goes for as low as Ksh 1,500 per person, is an all-new venture the restaurant has introduced which ideally is a buffet. We had the pleasure of indulging in a mix of traditional Indian cuisine and bit of continental dishes, fresh and straight from the fire. Yum!
For the starters, we were served delicious starters with a tofu side. We then proceeded to the main meal, what particularly got my taste buds ringing was the Puri (almost like a Kenyan mandazi), bread crumbed fish fillets, chicken biriyani and Dal- which is like spicy red beans. It was an all you can eat affair, good thing I had carried my appetite along with me on that fine Sunday. I recommend that you do too. They regularly update the menu so you don't have to worry about getting bored if you decide to make it a weekly destination.
In addition, if you are planning a private dining experience with family/friends or you just like your personal space, then they have a perfectly furnished private room upstairs. The outside eating area has a faux grass carpet, something that is proving to be a 2018 trend amongst most luxe restaurants.
Another reason why Mayura is the ultimate Sunday brunch destination is because you don't have to worry about the little ones jumping around and knocking glasses over. They restaurant has a designated play area that is within eye range from the outside dining area.
