Every Diwali, generous Kenyans of Indian origin share their Mitahi and other delicious Indian foods with their friends and neighbors. During this time, you can get to indulge in authentic Indian cuisine by eating original recipes of Chapati, Bhajia and Samosas.  This is a testament to the culinary impact India has had on Kenya.
Indo- Africa relations in East Africa go way back to the 15th Century. However, significant Indian migration to modern day Kenya began following the creation of the East Africa Protectorate in 1895.
Since then, Indian and Indigenous African cultures have entwined for close to two centuries,  particularly when it comes to cuisine.
From the use of rice, to maize porridge, chapati bread, grilled and marinated meats, fish, biryani, bhajia, maandazi and pilau, the cuisines are deeply intermingled.
It's always interesting to note the evolution of these foods after they were adopted as part of Kenyan staples. Eating an original recipe is always fascinating and may confuse your taste-buds if you are more used to the Kenyan-ized version of the dish.
This Diwali you can try out authentic Indian food at these Nairobi restaurants listed here.
