The 8th edition of Reggae in the Sun will go down at Godown Arts Centre on 4th May 2019 from 11 am - 11 pm. Advance tickets are available here for Ksh. 500.
The line-up includes artists such as Lavosti and The Roots Connection Band, Fidempa backed by The Roots Connection Band, Kare and The Zestic Band. The DJs are Dj Stano and Jnr Dread, Muzikal Sheriff, DJ Kweizah and DJ Dimsey.
The Roots Connection Band is a homegrown Roots Reggae band based in Nairobi. It is composed of Ruzira Lavosti (Drums and Lead vocals), Ali Magobenny (Guitar), Simeon Mellow Keys (Keyboards) and Ras Benjy (Bass). The band occasionally features other session musicians and artists.
Roots Connection Band was formed in 2016 and has since been featured in a number of high profile Reggae Music events in Kenya. It was featured at the 2016 Jamhuri Reggae Festival which was headlined by 'Capleton' and 'Queen Ifrika'. They have also appeared at the popular 'Roots International' stage at the Choices Bar & Grill backing international Reggae songstress 'Rita Black Omollo'.
The band also curtain raised for Midnite (Akae Beka) featuring Reggae 5, Don Carlos featuring Jamaican artiste Donovan Francis, and Damian Marley featuring Jah Lyric. They also backed up Everton Blender for his Nairobi show at the Sarakasi dome in 2018 and later on debuted at the Diani Beach Festival in December of the same year.
On the regular cycle, Roots has been playing at Kengeles Bistro and Mama Ashanti in Lavington, Brew Bistro Ngong Rd and Nyama Mama in Westlands. In addition to their weekly gigs, Roots has collaborated with Heartical Spencer, General Onyx, Rita Black Omollo , Nazizi , Jah Pillah, Levysill , Ras Mtapa, and Donovan Francis.
