We thought wrong huh? A story broke out that Starbucks, one of the leading coffee houses in the world, was setting up shop in Kenya. We wasted no time in sharing our opinions about this new luxe brand opening here before Larry Madowo shared the facts, and quashed our dreams.
This is the original tweet that broke the news:

Without credible sources and in the age of clout-chasing and engagement, journalists have become susceptible to fake news and the Starbucks story was a perfect example. BBC journalist Larry Madowo had to email the Starbucks team who confirmed that they had no plans of opening in Kenya.
Here's what he tweeted:

Two things however, became clear: most Kenyans like trolling social media influencers and secondly, we weren't really ready for another overpriced 'exclusive and elite' joint like Starbucks in the city. But, newsflash, we already have a 'Starbucks' in Karatina for those who would stil like the experience, just saying.
Here are some reactions from Kenyans.
