For football fans, the return of the Premier means they get to watch their favorite team play again. But for gambling fans, this means earning some money. As such, the people of Kenya are wondering if SportPesa will make a return.

Will SportPesa Return Soon? The Latest News

Ronald Karauri, the Chief Executive Officer of SportPesa recently tweeted that SpotPesa has resumed its operations in the country, although its BCLB license holder has changed. There are a few other changes to this website that Kenyan gambling fans should know about.
Starting from mid-2019, the Ministry of Interior has been cracking down on corruption in the country. Gambling has received a huge blow as a result of this, with 17 company directors being deported and 27 companies having to cease their operations.
Most of these company directors were Eastern Europeans who were engaged in unlicensed and illegal businesses. The popular sports betting site SportPesa has also been struck by this issue and they have even sued the government for not letting them carry out their everyday business.

The Background

On the 10th of July 2019, the Kenyan authorities ordered the betting codes to be withdrawn for some of the top gambling organizations in the country. SportPesa's license was withdrawn as well and two days later, the betting codes and billing system were deactivated.

What Are The Charges?

The authorities in Kenya claim that these organizations were running on expired licenses. They want the mobile network operator Safaricom to pay a fine of 200 billion Kenyan shillings for holding back taxes as liabilities from different gambling organizations.
Some companies like Scorepesa.com are unaffected. SportPesa argues the government has illegally suspended their codes and billing system.

SpotPesa Is Not Going Anywhere

After SportPesa's license got suspended, many gambling fans have been speculating the closure of the organization. Nevertheless, SportPesa has reassured its clients that there are no plans to stop operations.
The bookmaking organization has recently put out a statement saying that the company will begin running pretty soon. Betting fans can ask any questions related to the court proceedings using SportPesa's support channel.

SportPesa Is Still Offering Support

SportPesa has several sponsorship contracts with some of the top sporting teams in Kenya and gambling fans have been concerned regarding the fact that these deals might be withdrawn. Mr. Karauri has assured that nothing of that sort is going to happen.
The contracts between SportPesa and these sporting bodies are worth large sums of money. They are used for covering the different costs associated with organizing tournaments, paying the salaries of match officials, etc.

Reaction Of Fans

Betters want the operations to resume as soon as possible since they cannot deposit funds into their accounts anymore. According to social media reactions, they have been getting quite impatient of late.

Final Words

No matter what the company says, SportPesa is presently closed for business. However, they are engaged in discussions and are hopeful of things turning out in their favor.
