The Simba Warrior Fight Night boxing tournament kicked off in entertaining style last Thursday, April 19th at The Alchemist in Westlands.
Two bouts of six rounds each were on the cards and they didn't disappoint as the fighters gave the packed crowd three hours of high-octane entertainment under floodlights. Both pair of fighters brought their A-game, leaving everything on the ring, for a chance to qualify for the next round and be on course to be crowned the ultimate champion at the November finals.
Simba Warrior is a boxing and MMA organization, featuring top fighters in Kenya which started with the aim of growing boxing and Mixed Martial Arts as a sport in Kenya. The Simba Warrior Tournament is structured as a knockout event with 16 fighters competing for the title.
This new venture which is the brainchild of Adil Abdool will have a series of tournaments, so you do not have to beat yourself up if you missed the first Fight Night, because there is plenty more where that came from. A total of 16 Boxers will be participating in this tournament, which will run from April to November 2018. There will be a Fight Night scheduled on every last Thursday of each month between now and the finals.
Fight Night Schedule:
  • April 19th: Knockout Stage 1
  • May 31st: Knockout Stage 2
  • June: Knockout Stage 3
  • July: Knockout Stage 4
  • August: Quarter Final 1
  • September: Quarter Final 2
  • October: Semi Finals
  • November: Final
The fight attracted a hefty crowd of over 100 boxing enthusiasts all ready to cheer on their boxer of preference. Boxing has a way of tempering with your emotions, and this was clearly proven with the mix of anger, happiness and anxiety the crowd depicted through the night.  There were two bouts lined up for the night with a total of 4 boxers, all from different parts of the country.
At 8.30pm, the first bout saw Diesel Otieno, a 22-year old lad weighing in at 64 kgs and David Odur, a 30-year old gent, weighing in at 64kgs, go head to head in what most will agree was a neck-and-neck fight. There was no knockout in this round and David Odur emerged the winner with the highest points.
At 9.30pm, the second bout was Kevin Odiallo, a 26-year-old lad weighing at 64 kgs versus Paul Njika Sambaya, a 25-year old lad weighing at 66kg. After 3 rounds of the steaming fight, Paul Njika threw in the towel, making Kevin the winner of that round.
The boxers get paid to fight at every stage of this tournament. Save the date for the next fight night which is set for May 31st.
