What happens when you put two of Kenya's best acts in one song? A mega hit. But is this song really one? Short & Sweet which is performed by East Africa's most successful band Sauti Sol and rapper/singer Nyashinski is a major let down, well at least to me.
As a love song, it is not seductive at all. The choral background vocals give the song a spiritual mood rather than a romantic vibe. I would like to think that they forgot to proof read some of the lyrics too. One line is particularly cringeworthy, I remember you refused to kiss me and now you are using my toothbrush. I don't care how much you're in love, sharing toothbrushes is unhygienic to say the least. It may have been a tongue and cheek statement but still, eish!
I love the guitar work and Chimano does a deserving job on his verse. The hook is catchy but the beat ruins it. I would have loved it more in a cappella. I love Sauti Sol and Nyashinski (who doesn't?) but they did not live up to their musical abilities on this one. I expected more.
Listen to Short & Sweet and have your say.
