The 2nd edition of Convos with Kesh went down last Saturday (25th May) at the Kioko Mwitiki Gallery in Lavington. It was an intimate night gathering of  young singles and couples discussing what it's like dating as a millennial.
Dating as young person in Nairobi can be an extreme sport. Between fuccbois on Tinder and self-esteem killing trolls on social media, the modern dating world can be savage. This concrete jungle will show you things! 'Traditional dating' of boy meets girl, picnic and a happily-ever-after story isn't working out for everyone.
Convos with Kesh provided the perfect setting to vent as a frustrated millennial and have honest chat sessions with peers on sex, gender roles, ghosting, feminism, love languages...the whole shebang!
Kesho Kioko, the hostess, has an amazing presence and engaged with her audience. The ambiance was relaxing and people got comfortable enough to discuss their ghosting stories, sex and everything in between.
We talked about dating and social media and how the millennial generation is so used to instant gratification, and used to being so easily accessible to each other, there's a false sense of connection.
The dating game is really isolating, even though millennials are immersed in so many different options.
Things got pretty heavy when the topic of abuse came up. It was actually refreshing seeing young men unafraid of vulnerability. It was a safe space for everyone.
If this is something you'd want to be a part of, watch out for the next 'Convos with Kesh' in July.
