A short while ago, I tried a range of Clinique products after a friend recommended them to me. I have oily skin and in the past, I have struggled with acne breakouts, hyper-pigmentation and tried several remedies – be it home-made dermal treatments or store-bought products which gave me varied results.
At the time of getting these products, however, my biggest issue was oil control. A couple of hours after waking up and my face would like a glazed doughnut which was quite frustrating.
I got my hands on the Clinique 7 Day Scrub Rinse-Off Formula, Clinique Clarifying Lotion 3, and the Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel.
The scrub is a gentle exfoliant designed to de-flake the skin, removing any impurities in order to create a clean surface for the next steps in your skincare routine. The coconut oil in the scrub left my skin feeling clean and smooth without drying it. I used it after cleansing my face and rinsed it off with warm water.
The clarifying lotion by Clinique comes in four variants numbered 1-4 to cater for dry skin, sensitive skin, combination skin and oily skin. All formulations contain witch hazel and menthol so your face might tingle a little in the first few days of use and only for a short time after application. The clarifying lotion is a toner and works by removing impurities, minimizing excess oils and keeping pores clear. What I loved about this toner is the squeaky clean and pulled feeling I felt on my face. The only issue was that my face felt a bit dry afterwards.
The Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel was my favourite product of the three. Although I do think the exfoliation in the first two steps played a big role in how the moisturiser worked. The gel is a light formulation and absorbs easily and quickly. It is oil-free, lasts all day and incidentally, it worked perfectly as a substitute for a primer before foundation.
