Shonda Rhimes' creativity is one we would all like to be bequeathed with. Yes, I used the word bequeathed because Shonda is starting to rub off some of that on me. The executive producer of Scandal, Grey's Anatomy and How To Get Away With Murder is producing a new court-drama show called For The People set to premiere in March on ABC.
The series is set in the most high-profile court of the United States and will follow six junior lawyers who are trying to prove their worth to their bosses. There will be high-octane moments both in and out of court. In most court-case shows, the focus is usually on the top lawyers tearing at each other apart from How To Get Away With Murder which focused on a different angle. For The People will now direct its attention to the young lawyers as they strive to get recognition in the world of defence and prosecution cases.

Late last year, Shonda Rhimes was honoured for her work at the Annual Television Academy Hall of Fame ceremony and in her acceptance speech; she said that Oprah Winfrey had inspired her to work on this new show. "One day I turned on the TV and saw something it had never occurred to me to imagine. I saw this woman on TV, and she was smart and funny, and emotionally honest, and she seemed unapologetically herself. She was in charge, comfortable, powerful, and smart, real, it was her show, and she looked like me."
She added, "She was a black woman on television, and then she was a black woman taking over the world through television. She was Oprah. Oprah Winfrey changed my imagination. She changed what I found to be imaginable. Any limits to my success suddenly seemed — something clicked, and my imagination had no limits. The world got wider."
Who inspires you to go and achieve greatness? I cannot wait for this show. Shonda won't disappoint.
