It's a fact universally acknowledged, that Kenyans love their meat. So, giving it to them in plenty and in a vast variety is a brilliant idea. Since opening its doors last year, Nyama Mama restaurant at Delta Towers has become the home of authentic Kenyan food like ugali, githeri, chapati and mbuzi choma.
Every Sunday, they host a barbecue brunch which has become a hit with Nairobians looking for contemporary twits to their Kenyan dishes. So, naturally when the invite came over to attend, I had to check it out and see what the rage was all about.
My experience was nothing short of amazing; The African-themed decor is homely, the soulful live band adds to the ambiance, and most importantly, the food is fantastic. If you're a foodie and haven't yet tried out this sumptuous buffet, then you're in for a real treat!
If there is one thing that's for sure, is that they nailed it with the meaty concept. The restaurant's Sunday brunch does not sell you short, with the tremendous amount of food available at the buffet. A waft of delicious smelling roast meat is the first thing that hits you the second you enter the restaurant. We had the pleasure of sampling from their buffet and here's our take on it;
The best of the best:
  1. The succulent nyama choma (roast goat) and kuku choma (roast chicken) that were topped with barbeque sauce and pepper sauce respectively were finger licking good. What makes it even more better is the generous servings the chefs give to you!
  1. The mai choma (roast maize), which was covered in butter and topped with chili on a lemon just like the roadside maize all Kenyans live for! Only difference is the superb softness and exquisite taste, yum!
  1. The pumpkin soup; I am not so much a fan of soup but this soup right here changed my entire view of soup. The thick soup which one could top with chilli, carrots and loads more- the presentation pf the soup in a traditional pit and stove was also a plus!
  1. The burger; I have tried a lot of burgers in my lifetime, including those from famed burger houses, but none that have come close to how infinitely scrumptious this particular beef burger was; the magic was all in the spicing and tenderness of the meat, not to mention the sweet bun that accompanied it!
  1. The salad bar; The vegetarians in the house were spoilt for choice with the immensely stocked salad bar. What I loved most about it was the fact that you could build your own salad, and they had a tonne of dressing to make it all the more delicious.
  1. The waffles; If you know me, you know I nice fluffy waffle and Nyama Mama gave it to me with some delicious chocolate sauce, strawberries and a perfect presentation.
  1. Cocktails and Drinks; A Sunday brunch obviously means I want to enjoy a cocktail or two. The whisky sour served isn't the typical cocktail you may bethinking, they twisted it to make it fit for the brunch; a shot of gin, lime squeeze and an egg white. If you're looking for something a little stronger then you can opt for the mojito, or a glass of wine.

Other food you can enjoy?
Cakes from their dessert section, hot dogs, Mutura (a traditional blood sausage enjoyed by Kenyans) and goat ribs.
So, how much is the brunch?
If you opt for the non-alcoholic brunch, then you pay Ksh 2,200 only. However, if you like your brunch with an unlimited flow of selected cocktails and wines, then you can get this for just Ksh 3,900 - that's what I call a steal!
