Nicolas Cage is a thespian with a complex acting career. From winning an Academy Award for his performance in a leading role in Leaving Las Vegas (1995) to recently acquiring a reputation as one of the worst actors in Hollywood for his roles in low-budget, poorly written films that go straight to streaming sites.
In interviews, Nicolas Cage has described his method acting style as "Nouveau Shamanic." "Nouveau shamanism was just something I came up with. I thought it sounded cool," Cage said to Insider.
This style, he explains, is influenced by "German Expressionism and Japanese kabuki theater, and has been crafted by my experimental approach to method acting". His acting style has some disliking his overacting and others giving high praise to his expressive performances.
His recent flops do not negate his great performances. The reason he has had to take up some mediocre roles is because of his financial troubles and tax debts. He needs the cash and will take up almost anything that comes his way.
And now, we get a glimpse of what it is really like for him in an art-imitates-life film: The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. In this movie, Cage plays himself. Nic Cage is a larger-than-life actor who's fallen on hard times and is willing to take up any gig that comes his way to pay off his debts.
He gets an irresistible offer to attend a birthday party of an unhinged fan who unbeknownst to Nic Cage is part of a criminal syndicate. Things take a weird turn when the CIA get involved and he is forced to live up to his own legend, channeling his most iconic and beloved on-screen characters in order to save himself and his loved ones.
