The fashion world understands the phenomenon surrounding New York's annual Costume Institute Gala, in support of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It is held every first Monday in May; sort of a global showcase for  art, fashion, and music. It is a platform that allows prestigious fashion designers, models, actors, artists and musicians to show up, show out and celebrate the peak of creativity.  This was the event's 71st anniversary and the theme was Camp: Notes On Fashion.
Camp-Something so outrageously artificial, affected, inappropriate, or out of date as to be considered amusing; a style or mode of personal or creative expression that is absurdly exaggerated and often fuses elements of high and popular culture. The theme is inspired by Susan Sontag's 1964 essay 'Notes on 'Camp'.  As Alessandro Michelle, Gucci's creative director explained, "Camp really means the unique ability of combining high art and pop culture."

Here are some looks from this year:

Billy Porter

Dressed in a gold bodysuit with matching 24-karat headpiece and 10-foot long golden wings, actor Billy Porter made his entrance to the red carpet carried by six shirtless men on a litter. This has to be one of the most fabulous entrances that will go down the history of Met Gala.

Jared Leto

Heads were spinning when Jared Leto arrived with an unusual guest: a replica of his own head. I mean same hairstyle, same eyes, same face. You could say his twin maybe? He was dressed in a red long-sleeved gown with a crystal ensemble from Gucci, which made the entire outfit look like a costume from Game of Thrones.

Harry Styles

The pop singer Harry Styles wore a gender-fluid look designed by Gucci. Surprising as it may be, the sheer top is actually men's wear and has made its way into the fashion world. He paired his with high waist pants and chunky men's heels accessorised with a Pearl earring.

Janelle Monae

When it came down to statement pieces, Janelle has this in the bag. Her gown wouldn't have been complete without the blinking eye. She had the evening's best hat(s) and the entire outfit, composed of contrasting colours like black, white and pink was the perfect ensemble.

Michael Urie

Actor Michael Urie's whimsical two in one look was confusing and intriguing at the same time. He wore a half dress half tuxedo outfit by Christiano Siriano. From head to toe he tastefully played with both feminine and masculine looks coupled with a half-femme/half-masc makeup face. He replicated the same for the shoes as well.

Ezra Miller

The Actor had two looks in one which were both contenders for optical illusion and best makeup. His first look was a full length white cape and a face mask, with a black pinstripe suit with a train and jewel corset underneath. But what captured everyone's eyes were the five eyes painted on his face.
