By the end of last year's Avengers: Infinity War, some of Marvel's most powerful heroes like Black Panther, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange and The Guardians of the Galaxy were dead; wiped away by the snap of a finger. The other remaining Avengers? Well, they all definitely looked at the ends of their abilities in the face of Thanos' all-powerful villainy.
Thank goodness then that Nick Fury had one last trump card up his sleeve- Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel. This is the person Fury called in at the end of Infinity War to come save the world, and the superhero boys like Captain America, Thor and Iron Man who are in deep trouble.
But before swooping in to save the day in the forthcoming Avengers: Endgame, which comes out later in April, Captain Marvel will get her own movie this March, which will see the Marvel Cinematic Universe introduce its first female superhero lead. Oscar-winning actress Brie Larson stars as Captain Marvel with supporting roles for Jude Law in a secretive role and Samuel L. Jackson as a younger, two-eyed Nick Fury.
Marvel has described the Captain Marvel character as being more powerful than any other superhero introduced so far by the blockbuster franchise. The trailers confirm this by giving us a few looks at her incredible powers, which look to be no joke. She has superhuman strength, speed, endurance, stamina, physical durability and a seventh sense. She can also fly and turn into pure energy when in binary mode.
The story of Captain Marvel is set in the 1990s and it charts Carol Danvers' journey as she rises to become not only the universe's most powerful woman but its most powerful superhero.
Captain Marvel is scheduled to hit Kenyan cinemas on March 8.
