Tech undoubtedly came round to change the world positively. If Kenyans sat through a meeting to dig into advantages that came cased in this gift box called tech, innumerable positive and proven facts would go on and on.
But could it be that the flipside of this beat of tech we dance to is corrosive? Could it be that tech caged us in its awesomeness to a point we stopped thinking of alternatives to fall back to when tech-inspired systems go off the rails?
On Saturday, such a scenario shaped the day when Kenya's prestigious mobile money service M-Pesa left Kenyans in the lurch. Service users were manacled and couldn't get anything done through M-Pesa, a name that arguably gets mentioned incalculable times in a day, here in Kenya.
Kenyans took up their thrones in the opinion hall of twitter, to express utter disappointment at the sand thrown in the system's gears. Some however defended M-Pesa, saying the online scoffs were unnecessary.
The disparaging of the country's top mobile money service went on, reaching the government which was swift to give orders that the cause of the let down be investigated.
The government bestowed upon Communications Authority and Central Bank of Kenya, the role of screening the cause of the failure.
The two organizations were additionally directed by ICT CS Joe Mucheru to come up with a scrupulous report exploring measures that when taken will save Kenyans from future unexpected let downs.
