From starring in Hollywood films to winning an Oscar, Lupita keeps on shining. She has now added 'author' to her portfolio with her new book 'Sulwe'. Her upcoming book will be published by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers. The actress shared the news on social media with a lot of excitement.

'Sulwe' tells the story of a 5-year-old Kenyan girl who is the darkest in her family. This makes her uncomfortable and she feels the need to lighten her skin. However, the young girl goes on an adventurous journey at night and with the advice of her mother, she sees her beauty differently.
Most dark-skinned people have struggled with issues of self-image and acceptance and Lupita Nyong'o was no different. Growing up, Lupita remembers becoming more self-aware and taking to heart the opinions of others. She also says that at around that time in grade school, she noticed that the language being used to describe her sister was different because she has a different skin tone.
Her decision to write this book is based on the need to cultivate a different and more positive self-image in kids. According to her, the book will plant ideas in the child's mind for them to later access lessons that they wouldn't necessarily recognise when reading books.
The book is set to be released in January 2019. Hopefully, this will spark a conversation about the need to consciously cultivate positive self-image in young dark-skinned children.
After she shared the news, the reactions were overwhelmingly positive which would mean people are ready for 'Sulwe'.
