The sky is the limit for Mexican born Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong'o. While she may currently be basking in the afterglow of Black Panther's smashing box office and critical success, she's also looking forward to future projects.
Yesterday, she announced on twitter that she is set to star and produce the film adaptation of The Daily Show host Trevor Noah's bestselling memoir Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood. The book, which was initially released in 2016, and spent an impressive 26 weeks on the bestseller list and has since won the James Thurber Prize for American Humor and two NAACP Image Awards.
Noah's autobiography recounts his younger years growing up as a mixed raced kid - something which was illegal under Apartheid - written in comedic anecdotes. Lupita will star as Trevor Noah's mother, Patricia Noah, who like all mothers, served as an important figure during his fledgling years. Patricia was shot in her head by his stepfather after a church service but fortunately survived.
There's no indication yet when the movie will be released. In 2016, Lupita appeared in Queen of Katwe another African biopic where she also played the mother of the main character. It was earlier announced that she will also produce and star in an adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's bestseller Americanah.
Noah is producing the project through his Ark Angel Productions alongside Nyong'o, Norman Aladjem, Derek Van Pelt and Sanaz Yamin of Mainstay Entertainment.
