The London Marathon took place on April 22nd, 2018 in a spectacular fashion. This is because my country people (no pun) took the lead. Kenya's Eliud Kipchoge got his gold beating Britain's Mo Farah. That's impressive considering how high the temperatures were. This is the third time Kipchoge has won gold at the London Marathon. Vivian Cheruiyot also won gold at the Women's Elite London Marathon.
With the temperatures at about 20 degrees Celsius, Eliud had taken the lead when the race started but he could not keep up with the pace. He, however, pushed on to beat Ethiopia's Tola Shura Kitata and Dennis Kimmetto world records. Vivian Cheruiyot also struggled to race through the heat to come in at first place with Kenya's Brigid Kosgei coming in second and Tadelech Bekele from Ethiopia coming in third.
The London Marathon held annually has been there since 1981 which means it's amazing to have Kenyans be makers of history.
Kenyans took to Twitter to congratulate both Eliud and Vivian.
