From the outside looking in, Kenyans are fire.
From breaking world athletics records, birthing superstars and presidents, loud, colourful public transport shenanigans, being responsible for the world's best tea and coffee, and taking on the global twitterverse could easily top the list featuring Kenya's great exports.
But once you penetrate this bubble you sometimes find that "kwa ground vitu ni different" (loosely translated to: things are different on the ground).
We are unified by unique, ever changing idiosyncrasies that cut across many day to day activities. It's all part of the Kenyan magic.

Here's a list of things that glue Kenyans together:

Music

The debate over how cool or how enjoyable Kenyan music still rages on, but wave after wave of Kenyan music continually breaks barriers.  Kenyan music stirs up a whirlwind among the Kenyan populace. Tunes like Wamlambez, pekejeng, pandana are some of the hits that have brought Kenyans together on the dance floor and the debate table.

Kenyan Phrases

I don't know about where you come from, but in Kenya, a phrase will easily stir up a wave faster than you can shout "trend". For instance, "Kwa- ground-vitu-ni-different"  has become a phrase that clearly explains the disparity between reality and imagination and has quickly found its way into every Kenyan's mouth. Also,  the use of phrases like "me I" and "you-guy-my guy" have been coined and accepted as a Kenyan thing.

Hustle

Another Kenyan binding creed is the hustle; the love for making money. From waking up at ungodly hours of the morning to working through to the night, that is the Kenyan spirit. Did I mention innovative? Time and time again, Kenyans have come across as very creative and innovative people; from coming up with genius and creative ways of making money to coming up with innovations that changed the world, like mobile money! How is that for innovation?

Twitter

Since twitter's debut and it's slow rise to mainstream popularity among Kenyans,  the app's unifying quality shows in how Kenyans use this social media website. Whether for information, fun or just banter, the unity and love for each other reigns supreme. Also in times of web wars between countries, which happens a lot, Kenyans unity and togetherness in defending our twitter sovereignty has time and time again made Kenyans on Twitter untouchable! Safe to say that twitter has become ours!

Memes

Memes, another brain-child of the new age. They make us realise that in the grand scheme of things we share a lot of memories. Should your picture get in the wrong hands then it will probably end up as good fodder for meme-makers.

Comedians

Whether big time or not Kenyan comedians are something else. Rolling from the same banks of creativity that meme-makers get their content, Kenyan comedians have time and time again shown their abilities to serve us with relatable realities of the everyday Kenyan in their comedy.
What else do you think makes us uniquely Kenyan?
