Recho Kosgei, a mother of two, who was recently participating in a Marathon at Warsaw where she had a considerable 3-minute lead, collapsed just 800 metres to the finish line. She didn't finish the race.
The champion athlete has competed in several other marathons, and is now back in Kenya in a stable condition upon being treated.
The incident was as a result of severe dehydration caused by her inability to get water at the 30km water point. The organizers of the Warsaw Marathon have received a huge backlash on social media because of the length of time they took to offer her the much-needed assistance when she was evidently going through immense pain.
Fortunately, her fellow competitor from Slovakia, who she had left with a two-minute gap, is the good Samaritan that stopped to help her. The video made rounds online and watching it still whirls up strong emotions to any Kenyan and human being:
