It's been confirmed that Chris Hemsworth's contract as the god of thunder comes to an end after the yet untitled Avengers 4 scheduled for 2019. Our hearts would break if Chris was to take a step back from playing Thor because he practically owns the character now.
As much as we'd love Chris back, we can't help but think which Kenyan actors can replace him. If Lupita Nyong'o's and Edi Gathegi's success in Hollywood prove anything, is that Kenyan actors are primed to helm multi-million dollar blockbusters.
Since there hasn't been any talk of a female Thor yet, and Thor's incredibly muscular frame, Lupita and Edi, though massively talented, don't make our cut. But here are 4 local actors that can make that onscreen leap to Asgard.
  1. Peter King Mwania
He would work because of his serious-faced aura which I think works for Thor. His deep-set eyes are also mysterious and that would convince of us of an African thunder god in him. The actor, known for his role in TV series Sense8, has a deep voice too which will work perfectly. How many votes for him?
  1. Godfrey Odhiambo
You have seen in Kenyan screens in shows such as Noose of Gold and appearances in Tahidi High. He has more of a villainous look and though I might be tempted to say we cast him as Loki, his buff body still earns him a likely role as Thor. He would totally hammer down any villains who are out to destroy Kenya…Oops! I meant earth.
  1. Charles Mnene
This Kenyan-British actor will be appearing in Macbeth, a reimagining of Shakespeare's play. He has a charm to him that we have seen Thor exude in different instalments. He would be an evolution of the muscly Thor to a more agile one. Who said a god has to come in one-size?
  1. Isaya Evans
I picture him fighting with Loki and striking lighting down on our planet. He has the stern look, a cool persona and he is muscly enough to star as Thor. His acting skills have seen him appear in 18 Hours film alongside Nick Ndeda and adding 'Thor From Africa' to his portfolio won't hurt either. But we're pretty sure those on the wrong side will be hurt by his hammer.
