Kenya Film Commission unveiled the list of judges for the
National Script Writing Competition. The launch was attended by Cabinet secretary for ICT, Joe Mucheru and a Chinese delegation led by Mr Pang Xinxing, Chairman of Star Times Group and Prof. Yin Hong, Vice Chairman of China Film Association.
The nine-member jury will evaluate submissions based on 0riginality, story structure, characterization, visual inventiveness and overall viability.
It comprises of;
- Dr. Fredrick Mbogho - Scriptwriter, Playwright, Actor, Senior Lecturer, The Technical University of Kenya
- Njoki C. Muhoho - Filmmaker, Management Consultant and Academy Director for the Multichoice Talent Factory
- Mona Ombogo - Author and Scriptwriter
- Eston N. Munyi - Lecturer, Kenyatta University and Kenya Institute of Mass Communication
- Eugene Mbugua - Content Creator, Writer, Producer, Director, Young Rich Television Ltd
- Appie Matere - Film Producer, Director Zamaradi Productions Ltd, MNET Productions
- Ann Hamberger - Film Producer and Actress
- Rueben Odanga - Film Director, Multan Production
- Victoria Goro - Deputy Director/Film Lecturer Kenya Film School
The competition, which launched on 4th of February 2019, received 549 entries by close of submission on 27
th February 2019. In the second stage of the competition, 20 shortlisted writers will be required to send a full script for further evaluation.
Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit full scripts for further evaluation. There are three categories to be evaluated and the winners announced on 25
th April 2019. The
Best Script will be awarded
Ksh 1M with First Runner-up getting Ksh 500,000 and Second Runner-up getting Ksh 300,000. The
Best Student Writer (under 25 years of age) will get
Ksh 100,000 and the
Best Young Writer (18 years and below) will get
Ksh 100,000.
