The Reel County Film Festival is returning for its third edition, building on the success of past years. The festival will take place from February 13th to 17th, 2023 and will include film screenings, critique sessions, panel discussions, and cash prizes.
Organized by the Kenya Film Commission (KFC), the festival aims to promote the film industry in all 47 counties of Kenya. Under the theme of "My county, my story," the festival will provide a platform for local filmmakers to share knowledge and skills, in order to make a stronger impact on the cultural, social, and economic development of audio-visual products in the counties.
To participate, filmmakers may submit their work in the following categories: Feature Films (minimum 60 minutes), Short Films (7-40 minutes), Documentaries (20-40 minutes), and Animation (5-10 minutes). The content must not only be produced by filmmakers from the counties but should also tell stories from those counties. The submission deadline is February 3rd, 2023 and only one submission per title is allowed. Submissions should be made via email to reelcounty@filmingkenya.go.ke and must include a digital copy, a fully completed entry form, a KFCB Classification Certificate, a trailer, a synopsis, a poster.
A five-member jury selected by the KFC will review all submissions, and only the top three in each category will be screened at the festival. In addition, the KFC will award the producers of the content a screening fee of KES 100,000 in all categories for at least eight screenings.
