Le Band's Chokoraa Mjanja unraveled new "Wera" music with Msagha this month. The powerhouse has been conjuring airwaves with his unique voice, Msagha's slick video since the song's release. We pinned him down for an interview to find out a little more about everything behind this masterpiece with Msagha and what his next projects are;
KB: Let's talk about your newest single "Wera". How did you and Msagha get together to create this masterpiece?
Msagha and I have been buddies since highschool. He invited me to his home studio set up some time back and found he had already started on this song. I basically jumped on it, finished and next we were thinking about the video concept.
KB: What was the inspiration behind "Wera", yours specifically?
"Wera" was inspired by my current personal experience. Right now, my space is about how I can make money through my creativity and/or monetize my degree hence "Wera". What we wanted for this song was to make it fun, have a playful bounce and satire despite its thought provoking lyrics.
KB: "Wera's" video concept is seemingly a freestyle that sparks an interest by inspiring folks with an absolute divine creativity. Is this so?
It wasn't as freestyle as it looks. We had to script it down to themes and scenes which had to be used and recur on the song. We did a shortlist of professions that we wanted to feature and we got good footage out of that.
KB: The video has garnered over 2,000 YouTube views since its release, how would you describe the fans' reception to "Wera"?
It's crazy. What I love more about it is guys saying it's very factual and that's exactly what Msagha and I were trying to do when writing it.
KB: Is there anything else that you would like to share with our readers going forward with your music?
After "Wera", I will be doing a solo project coming in about five weeks' time. I'm also working on an EP with Msagha that has a lot of African samples. Being part of Le Band, you'll have to wait for something towards the end of the year.
KB: What's the one thing you'd like to tell your fans?
Well, first I want to thank guys for believing in me and critiquing my work. I want us to have an army of believers of music to join the family of love and compassion. Tell a friend to tell a friend to listen to my music.
