KB:Tell us something about yourself
Ah well, Cess is a 31-year old divorced mum of two. I'm also a celebrity fashion stylist who's got the opportunity style quite a number of people including Kalekye Mumo, Janet Otieno, Guardian Angel among others.
KB:What does personal styling include?
It involves jewellery, shoes, attire. When it comes to makeup and hair I would tell the professional what works with the style.
KB:How long have you been doing styling as a professional career?
So far, it's been a year and four months.
KB:How would you describe the journey so far?
I'd say it's a lot of patience but I feel like once the door opens, there's no turning back. The moment you style a client and people notice the good job you've done, it's great.
KB:What are some challenges in the industry you've experienced?
Stubborn clients. I've had issues with clients who don't pay especially huge amounts of money. Also convincing shops to lend you their clothes is a bit hard.
What we do is influencer marketing for these shops because I get clothes from certain shops and boutiques to style people then we return the clothes. So the only way the shops benefit is entirely through marketing. They are not open to the idea of their clothes being worn and returned without being bought.
KB:How are you able to identify specific individual styles?
Main things I look at specifically is the body type, which is the first thing that matters, complexion, the work they do and essentially the functions they go to. If you're big for example, dull colors and prints work best in places you're not entirely comfortable with.
KB:How would someone benefit from hiring a stylist?
First, you don't have to worry about what to wear. I dress media personalities so they can just come in jeans and I do the rest. I mean, they don't have to worry about news stories, interviews and at the same time what to wear especially being a public figure.
KB:What of personal styling?
We do that as well, including a lot of wardrobe makeovers because you may have time to shop but not know what essentially works for them. I believe as a professional, I'm well versed with what would work for you better.

KB:How do you determine one's comfortability aspect?
It happens. We always have to figure that out from the get go, what works best for you, material type, do you like fitting clothes, probably you're more of a religious person and what I'd like to dress doesn't necessarily reflect on that.
KB:Do you have a particular sense of styling when it comes to dressing your clientele?
I think I'm very chic. Modern clothes that make my clients look different but then I have to consider that might not work so well with a client. I don't mind styling someone with something different.
KB:Is styling expensive?
No its not. The rates are standard because sometimes I can give you a dress worth Kshs. 5000 and other times a suit a suit worth Kshs.30000 so it ranges from Kshs.3000 to 5000, depending.
KB::Would you advise someone to do styling as a career?
Definitely! It's not easy but if you're passionate about it keep going and someone somewhere will notice.
