In the Name of Love: What if Roles Were Reversed?

In the Name of Love (En nombre de amor) remains one of the most memorable Telenovelas by Kenyan audiences. The rivalry between sisters Carlota and Macarena was a big part of the show’s plot but recently, the stars of the show, Leticia Calderon (Carlota) and Victoria Ruffo (Macarena) recently that they wanted to play each other’s roles.

As a veteran actress, Victoria Ruffo has topbilled successful telenovelas such as Triumfo del amor and Corona de Lagrimas. Always the protagonist, she has yet to play a major villain character and therefore wanted to give life to Carlota on In the Name of Love. Meanwhile, Leticia Calderon is known for her antagonist roles in shows such as Amor bravio and Mujeres de Negros. On her end, she wanted to play Macarena’s character because it was a special appearance and she would have time to spend with her then young children. She explained that she had rejected the offer and only accepted to take part in the novela because she was given Macarena’s role. In the end, however, the producer of the show decided to switch the actors’ roles, giving us the Carlota and Macarena we know of today.

Would Leticia Calderon been able to portray the role of innocent and caring Macarena? Would Victoria Ruffo be able to embody the ruthless and heartless Carlota? How do you think the show would have turned out if roles were reversed?
