As Kenya begins to slowly open up due to a decrease in COVID-19 cases, for many, things seem to be returning to the way they used to be.
But for those whose lives have been significantly altered or permanently changed by the pandemic (especially those who have experienced mental illnesses), finding the confidence to be social, travel, and be out in public once more can feel like a real obstacle.
The question of how to improve social confidence doesn't have an easy answer that applies to everyone, but that doesn't mean it's impossible. Below are some helpful suggestions to consider.

Focus on Your Strengths

A great way to boost your confidence is to do things that make you feel good.
Think about your passions and what you consider your greatest skills and consider ways to implement them into your routine. For instance, if you excel at writing, you might decide to take up journaling or share your work with others.
Try to choose an activity that you can share with others, too, so that you can connect with communities that feel welcoming.

Put Yourself in Uncomfortable Situations

Stepping outside of your comfort zone and proving to yourself that you're capable of handling scary situations is a great way to raise your confidence.
This strategy doesn't have to be anything extreme, either; if you are not used to social gatherings, for instance, try visiting a get together and challenge yourself to meet new people.

Try to Smile More

Smiling is a tiny gesture that can go a long way in helping you feel more confident and in control of your actions. Even when you feel like you failed at something, smiling and trying to be positive can boost your mood and show others that you're a mature, strong individual.

Takeaway: Take Small Steps

Improving your social confidence will take time and effort, especially after such a long break from normality.
It may be a challenge to rediscover who you are, but that's okay. The end results will be worthwhile no matter what.
