Star Profile: Hellen Waithira
Hellen Waithira was born on Halloween (October 31st) in Nyeri, Central Kenya. When she was thirteen years old, she learnt to put on masks to deal with her parents’ divorce. It was from here that she built up her character as an actress.
She studied a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Human Resource Management from the University of Nairobi. Hellen is a television, film and stage actress.
She wowed local TV audience as Milka on KBC’s Heartbeat and was for a while referred to as Gabby from her role on Citizen TV’s Tabasamu. She played Eve on K24’s Maisha. Currently Hellen plays Lucy on Jane & Abel, a Spielworks Media production that airs on DStv’s Maisha Magic.
Hellen has been featured on the movies: Garden of Eden (2008), Chasing Moses (2009) and House of Lungula (2013). She’s also on Tomorrow, Next Filmmaker and Dinner Will be Late films which aren’t out yet.
She has been in several theatre performances under the Festival of Creative Arts (FCC) stable among them Dinner for Sinners, Perfect Wedding and Our Husband has Gone Mad Again. Also she was on the popular PSI ad “Fungua roho yako”.
Her hobbies include modelling, travelling, reading, writing poetry, dancing salsa and watching movies, plays and musicals.
