YouTube has become popular in Kenya over the years, with the shared videos launching careers for some. Kenyans love funny things if the statistics for YouTube this year are anything to go by. Here are the most viewed Kenyan YouTube videos in 2017 according to the official YouTube rankings.
President Uhuru Dancing
This was the video of President Uhuru dabbing at the State House. He had invited Kenya's top dance crew, FBI Dancers for a session and they did the dab and shoki, much to everyone's surprise. His street cred rose, with people referring to him as a 'cool President'. There was also some online vitriol with others saying he would have focused more on 'important issues' other than dancing. The video is one of the highest locally watched this year. It got over 1million views.
Eric Omondi - Zilitemwa
Kenyan comedian Eric Omondi's parodies are winning this year. Zilitemwa is a Tanzanian parody about how bad food was spewed out. But it's also not bad food but also all other awful things that are forced on to us. Tanzanians seemed to have liked the funny videos evident by the many comments on the video. It got 1.4million views.
Eric Omondi - How to Be Joho
This is more of a political satire by Eric. He makes fun of Mombasa politician Ali Hassan Joho's most peculiar behaviour. One of the tips on how to be Joho is to look the part, that means beards come a long way. The 9-minute clip got over 760,000 views.
Eric Omondi - The Gods are Not Crazy, We Are!
Are you crazy? Well, Eric Omondi thinks so in this video poking fun at the South African movie The gods must be crazy. He is seen in full Bushman clothing and he features another comedian Chipukeezy as his sidekick in the video. It's easy to see why the video is that popular.
Eric Omondi - How to Be Vera Sidika
Vera Sidika is Kenya's most famous socialite. She is surrounded by controversy ranging from her fashion sense, to the beauty products she uses to her body parts. Eric Omondi yet again released his creative juices and went ham on her. This video got over 600,000 views on YouTube.
NASA Vs Jubilee Party Full Match Highlights
FIFA Games are very popular among Kenyans, especially among football fans. In July this year, a FIFA football animated game was created for NASA vs JUBILEE, the two most prominent political parties in the country. The games had players such as Odinga and Uhuru. The video got an impressive 400,000 views this year. It was a move aimed at bringing unity.
Tribute to AKA (Ayeiya)
In April this year, Churchill Show lost comedian AKA (Ayeiya) in a grisly road accident. Churchill Show paid a tribute to the great comedian by playing some of his most popular stand-ups on NTV. The video on NTV posted on YouTube got over 445,000 views. May he rest in peace.
Bees Attack People Outside of Court
As Kenya's Supreme Court judges read the verdict on the elections that had taken place on October 8th, drama unfolded as a swarm of bees came to attack the journalists and protesters who were outside the premises. The video, which makes one pity those who were attacked, got over 300,000 views.
Muhoho Kenyatta Visits Nandi County
President Uhuru Kenyatta's son, Muhoho Kenyatta had a while back accompanied Deputy President William Ruto to Nandi County. He was then asked to speak to the crowd and it was a shock as he started reading from his phone. It was evident that he has little understanding of Swahili, the national language, and people made fun of him.
Willy Paul and Alaine - I Do
Before it was confirmed that it was a song, Gospel singer Willy Paul had many Kenyans convinced that he had wed Alaine. It later turned out to be a well-manoeuvred publicity stunt. That drove views to the YouTube video of the song once it got out.  It has over 4.4million views.
Nyashinski - Malaika
Nyashinski has been the well-received Kenyan artist to make a comeback. His song Malaika was such a big hit this year, with people playing it on repeat. It got over 3.3million views in 2017. The number might go up by 2018.
