Kenyans now have till March 1st 2020 to acquire new e-passports after the government extended the original August 1st deadline for replacing old passports.
Government spokesman Cyrus Oguna stated, "The directive has in effect, extended the deadline for travel using the new e-passport to March 1st 2020 for all Kenyans. Kenyans can therefore travel using their current (old blue) passports until 1st March 2020."
President Uhuru Kenyatta directed Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs Monica Juma and Interior CS Fred Matiang'i to work with foreign government agencies to issue visas to Kenyans on current passports.
The statement encourages Kenyans to take advantage of the extended deadline. Earlier in June, the then Principal Secretary for Immigration and Citizen Services Gordon Khihalangwa  warned that the Immigration Department would not be issuing new passports unless applicants had a valid reason to apply.

To replace an old passport, you need to present  the following documents:

  • Birth certificate copy
  • Original ID and copy
  • Recommender's ID copy (Recommender is any citizen who is not your relative, who can give you a copy of their ID.)
  • Original and Copies of the last two pages of the current passport
  • Duly filled downloaded and printed application form
  • 3 invoices
  • 3 passport sized photos
